COVID-19 At-Risk Students Program

CTCC Helps At-Risk students

As a T’ai Chi family, we will help at-risk students who cannot go out to shop. Josh Lowry will be our point person. He is equipped with latex gloves, masks and he is ServSafe certified.

The process is as below.

A local produce wholesaler, Cavalier Produce, has begun allowing people to order directly from them for pick-up at their facility in Zion Crossroads and in a couple of satellite locations in Charlottesville. There are several advantages in ordering from Cavalier including less handling of the produce (since it does not have to be stocked in the store and handled by other shoppers) and supporting a local business. Details of the offer are at the link below:

For our students particularly at risk for COVID-19, CTCC would like to offer to pick up the produce for you and deliver it to you if you need us to do that. The process for that is:

  1. Visit Cavalier Produce to place and pay for the order by NO LATER THAN 3pm on Friday for Saturday pick up.
  2. Pay by credit card over the phone.
  3. When ordering, specify that the order will be picked up at the Cavalier Produce warehouse by Josh Lowry on your behalf. If asked for a pick-up time, say 10:30am.
  4. Email Josh Lowry. In that email include your address and any other instructions that may apply for the delivery.

Depending on how much demand there is for this service, Josh may need help with pick-up and delivery. If you are willing to help with pick-up and delivery, please email Ferrell Mercer. Ferrell will build a list of people willing to help Josh. All of this will be done with attention to social distancing and safety for both volunteers and recipients.

Thank you for your patience. Stay safe and healthy,
